Google has started testing a new media player for Android Auto. Android Auto 7.9.1228 beta already includes the improved player.
There are several issues with the current player. The blurry background for the album cover of the song you want is one of the most irritating features. It is only visible on a small portion of the screen. Everything is now in order with the updated player that blurs the background.

It is also easier to track playback. Instead of the traditional green bar surrounding the pause button, you can now use a more traditional bar with progress bars. It is now easier to track the new version while driving.
