Galaxy M53 5G Is Samsung’s Second Mid-Range Phone With A 108MP Camera

Samsung has followed up its first mid-range smartphone with a 108MP camera by launching a new Galaxy 5G model with a similar sensor. Since 2020, Galaxy flagships have had 108MP cameras. However, no mid-range Samsung phone had such a large pixel count sensor until March 2022, when Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A73 5G.

Samsung took its time adding a 108MP camera back to its mid-range phones, but competitors like Realme, Motorola, and Xiaomi have launched budget phones with a sensor of 108MP. The Xiaomi Mi Note 10, a mid-range smartphone with a 108MP camera, was the first to be announced in 2019.

The Galaxy M53 5G follows the newly-announced Galaxy M335G. The new smartphone’s design is a mix of the Galaxy A73 5G and the Galaxy M33 5G. It borrows from the Galaxy A73 5G’s flat display and a central punch-hole for its front-facing camera. However, the back has the same quad-camera setup used in the Galaxy M33 5G. Samsung intends to offer the Galaxy M53 5G in the same Blue and Brown colorways as the Galaxy M33 5G.

MediaTek powers the Galaxy Phone

The specifications of the Galaxy M535G are suitable for a mid-range smartphone. The display is a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED+ panel with an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh speed. Instead of an Exynos or Snapdragon processor underneath, there is a MediaTek Dimensity 900 CPU under the hood. This should provide similar performance to the Exynos1280 inside Galaxy A33 5G and Galaxy A53 5G. Only one configuration is available, which has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. This is quite a lot of storage. However, a microSD card slot allows for up to 1TB.

The rear quad-camera setup’s leading camera is the 108MP f/1.8 sensor. The Galaxy A73 5G boasts optical image stabilization, but it is not mentioned. The back features an 8MP ultrawide angle camera and a 2MP depth camera. A 2MP macro camera is also included. The front has a 32MP sensor. The display has an AMOLED screen. However, Samsung placed the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy M33 5G’s side, where it doubles up as the power button. The phone also has a large 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support. However, buyers will need to buy a power adapter separately.

There is no NFC, but there are other features such as dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, and Samsung Knox security. One UI 4.1 will be shipped with the phone. It is based on Android 12 and should get the same software support as the Galaxy M33 5G. This means that the phone will receive two OS updates and four years’ security updates. Samsung has not yet revealed pricing or availability, but the new Galaxy M53 is expected to be less expensive than the Galaxy A73 5G 5G. This is because Samsung has taken some corners.
