Here’s When Samsung Might Open Its Android 13 Beta Program

Samsung reportedly wants to launch its Android 13 beta program in July 2022. Google is currently testing Android 13 developer preview builds on a few devices. This will be available to AOSP later in the year. Samsung was a latecomer to Android updates a few years back. Customers often voiced their disapproval in no uncertain terms.

However, things have changed in the last few years, with Samsung becoming a leader in providing timely updates to its smartphones and tablets. The company first announced the Android 12 beta program last July, and then it began rolling it out in September. The company seems to be aiming for even greater success this year.

Samsung plans to release its Android 13 beta program, which includes One UI 5.0, in July 2022. SamMobile claims this is an open beta program where regular users can install the update. Samsung will be conducting a public beta testing phase for several weeks before rolling out stable Android 13 builds to the public by 2022 or early 2023. The report states that these time frames aren’t set in stone and may change over time. If the information is correct, Samsung will likely be able to launch the first stable builds earlier than last year if it starts its beta program so early.

Samsung devises Eligible For Android 13

Although Samsung has not yet confirmed which smartphones will receive the Android 13 update for their devices, nearly all premium smartphones released in the last two years are eligible. Samsung had promised to provide four years’ worth of Android version updates to its premium smartphones. This means that the Galaxy S22 series devices will be the first to receive the Android 13 update. The new software will be available for all Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20 models and the Galaxy S21 FE (mid-range) and S20 FE (high-end).

According to Samsung’s update policy, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra should be updated to Android 13. All companies foldable should be eligible, except for the original Galaxy Fold. This includes the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G and Z Fold 3 5G, Z Flip 2, Z Flip 2, Z Flip 2, and Z Flip 3. A host of Galaxy A-series and M-series devices will also be eligible for Android 13. This includes the recently launched Galaxy A73 and Galaxy A53. The new Galaxy Tab S8 series and last year’s Tab S7 qualify for the latest software. This is by no means an exhaustive list. Other Samsung tablets will most likely receive the Android 13 update.
