Huawei Giving Away Smartphones In The U.S. As a Joke

Black Friday has been the most important holiday in capitalism since the advent e-commerce. It is also the largest. Some people criticize this bargain hunting, and Huawei is currently showing that it is possible to also express political criticism at Black Friday.

Yesterday’s simple tweet caused a stir among Chinese manufacturers. Huawei USA’s social media team announced a “Black Friday Special”. Highlight of the special offer was a 100 percent discount on all smartphones we sell in the US. This basically meant that you could give away all your smartphones.

You cannot give away what you aren’t allowed to sell
Or, I would give it away. The crucial point is ” currently selling” in the US, as keen observers of current politics and economy will know. Huawei currently does not sell smartphones in the USA. This is due to the sales ban or trade embargo that Donald Trump imposed in the USA as President. It will continue under Joe Biden’s leadership.

The tweet also included an upside-down laughing Emoji, which you can see was ironic. Some people didn’t realize this and asked where they could find it. Others also complained bitterly about it. Huawei USA was forced to either fix the tweet or explain: “Okay folks. It’s a joke. It’s impossible to sell anything in the USA.

It is unlikely that this status will change. Even if President Biden does not roar as loudly as his predecessor, nothing will change regarding the Huawei ban. Contrary to popular belief, the president signed a law just one week ago that further cements the exclusion from the US market of companies such as Huawei.
