Sony released its financial results for the first quarter 2022 fiscal year last week. The quarter’s PlayStation 5 sales were 2.4 million, an increase of 100,000 over the previous year. The financial report did not include sales figures from the PlayStation 4, for the first time. Sony has stated that it will not release such information. This signifies the end of the console’s life cycle.
IT Home reports that the total PlayStation 4 sales exceeded 117.2 million units. During the last year, 1 million units were sold. The PlayStation 5 is Sony’s flagship product.
The PlayStation 5’s total sales have reached 21.7million units. Sony has set a goal to sell 18,000,000 units in the current fiscal year. The company intends to improve the PS5 supply chain, and increase its production capability before Christmas.
At an investor meeting held in May, Sony stated that it will no longer make its PS4 games until 2025. Sony acknowledged that PS5 sales were below expectations due to a lack of production capacity.
