Xiaomi: The cost of Xiaomi 12S Ultra is incorrect. The camera costs a lot more

Counterpoint calculated that the Xiaomi 12S Ultra flagship smartphone, with 8GB RAM and 256GB flash memory, costs approximately $516. The smartphone was on sale for $887.

Counterpoint estimates that the price of the camera is $79 and $89 respectively, while the display costs $89 and the single-chip system $128. Wang Teng Thomas, Director of Xiaomi New Products, has already commented on the information. He stated that the cost for Xiaomi 12S Ultra was incorrectly calculated.

He pointed out that Counterpoint had made a mistake in pricing the camera module. The price of a camera equipped with Leica lenses, the most recent 1-inch image sensor, is significantly more than $79. This is even before you consider the ultra-wide-angle or periscope module that are used by Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

Van Ten Thomas stated that errors can be found in other articles and reminded that the cost must include research and development costs as well as operating costs and taxes.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra’s first use of the Sony IMX989 1-inch image sensor was the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It was jointly developed by Sony and Xiaomi. Lei Jun, founder and chairman of Xiaomi Group, stated that the development cost was approximately $15 million.

Another source confirmed that Counterpoint’s cost calculation is extremely rough. Prices may vary widely and don’t include taxation.
